Art and Fun in Kelowna
I just got back from spending the holidays in Kelowna, BC. I hadn't been there in many years, and I had a delightful time exploring this small city which hugs the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake. I walked all over the place admiring the waterfront as well as the shops, restaurants, and particularly the art galleries
I was drawn
to the work of Salmon Arm-based artist Amy Modahl. Her show Redactions
features her latest work, which is rich, graphic and textured. The show runs until January 12th, 2025

I was also intrigued by the thermal ink bleed serigraphs on synthetic paper by Derek Michael Besant.
These pieces top to bottom are entitled In Other Words, Different, and In Other Words, Afraid.
They are on permanent display in the gallery, gifted by the artist in 2018
Derek Michael Besant created his famous “trompe l’oeil” Flatiron Mural on the back of the
Gooderham Building in 1980 in Berczy Park, Toronto
Outside in the central courtyard was this striking installation called Hope And Healing Canada by Ontario Métis Tracey-Mae Chambers. My photographs cannot do this work justice, it is a sight to behold! Check out this link for more information on this travelling knitted and crocheted series:
A fun feature of the Kelowna Art Gallery is The Art Lab. I spent a happy half hour sketching,
painting and collaging a self portrait for their wall
(Photo inspo for my self portrait)
I walked the city for over four hours one day. So much to see that is cool, interesting or beautiful,
and loads of great places to eat and drink
I was tempted by the idea of a dip, especially with this floating sauna walking distance from my hotel
It sure looked intriguing through the window!
So long Kelowna, thanks for some beautiful holiday memories! 💋
